This year was my first attempt at shading a foam pumpkin, and I will have to say, I struggled with it and did not enjoy doing it. Thanks for the responses. Yeah, I think I paid .28 cents per pound on average, which isn't terrible, but I still spent (yikes!) $200 on pumpkins this year.

I figured I purchased 700 pounds of pumpkins this year. I was wondering if people get discounts if they purchase all at once from the same farmer? It might save me some money next year.

Thanks for the compliments everyone. Right now, I don't want to go near another pumpkin, but I'm sure in a few months, I'll be planning for next Halloween. The adults especially liked the pumpkins and couldn't stop complimenting me on the carves. I couldn't have done them all without the great tools...

Just out of curiosity, are the white pumpkins generally juicier than the orange ones? I only have experience carving one white pumpkin, and it was very juicy. Nice work!

Turns out I didn't need the Dremel on this one after all. I couldn't have asked for a better pumpkin for this carve. It was soft on the inside, yet firm on the outside...almost like a honeydew melon. It was super easy to carve but still took a long time because of the detail. I didn't want to screw ...
