Haha, stamping their hands! That's a great idea. Do you have some nifty Halloween themed stamp?

Hadn't thought about hats. Would anyone be interested in that? What type?

It's real, but I have no idea what type of tree that is. I think the scientific name might be "branches I found in the neighbor's yard."

How in the heck do you 'gut' it out? Do you lop off the bottom and use spoons? Yep, you lop off the bottom (the only way to get the melon to stand up anyway). Then scoop it out. Unlike pumpkins which can be tough and stringy, watermelons are soft and very juicy. Very. Expect to keep dumping out the...

Ah, thanks for the info. I figured that might be the case. Dare I consider making a grave or two before Halloween? Yea, just what I need, another project during my busiest week of the year. Heh. Next year, for sure. Those come out great.

My first of 2005 (and first Fun-kin)

I don't usually carve pumpkins more than a week before Halloween. But I had to do one early (and photograph it too) for a recent feature for the Herald Press newspaper. I went with the WoW Orc and carved it into a Fun-kin. So if you're considering trying these foam Fun-kins, here is an example of ho...

Christmas trees are a dime a dozen. Where it's really at is Halloween trees! I put this one together, with orange lights and skeletal ornaments. Here are some pics... http://www.zombiepumpkins.com/images/forum/tree01.jpg http://www.zombiepumpkins.com/images/forum/tree04.jpg http://www.zombiepumpkins...

And let us not forget, Edgar Allan Poe.

Excellent work Cheef! I've always wanted to make some tombstones, very much like that. Where'd you pick up the polystyrene insulation board?

Ooh, I like this idea. If I cook something up, I'll let you know. If anyone has any ideas, post 'em. What would a gathering of pumpkin heads do? If any pumpkin carving was to take place, it would have to be B.Y.O.P. :)

Ouch, bronkula. That's more of a "sad" story, then a "funny" one. The inside warmth is bound to dry a pumpkin, but those seemed to go really fast. I keep mine outside until Halloween, but put them in the back yard. Back porch. Deck. Garage. Anywhere that's cooler than the inside of the house, and hi...

Love his books, but would people really carve images of authors? I'd have to make a new stencil category. "Wicked Writers," perhaps? :P

I actually created my tiki pattern for that very reason. :D Carved a watermelon and brought it to a summer party with a luau theme. Here's a photo of it:

Funkins came down in price this year ($20 instead of $30). I can attest that they look great. Molded from real pumpkins, you have to look close to tell they aren't the real thing. But for the carving experience, I much prefer a real pumpkin, which is more soft and forgiving. It's sometimes sad to se...
