First, let me say that I'm a purist when it comes to lighting my jack-o-lanterns. There's nothing like the brightness and flicker of a real flame. And there's just something "Halloweeny" about the smell of pumpkins gently cooking from the inside. But to keep things safe for the kids you might want a...

Ooh, an Otep fan. Awesome. I actually sorta know eViL j. 8) So, what kind of Otep image are you carving up? I had actually started a couple stencil designs last year... of eViL j and Otep herself. I suppose those are some pumpkin patterns you'd be interested in Nikki? Anyone else into Otep?

My pumpkin patterns are usually made entirely on the computer. I'll start by sketching out the shapes in Adobe Photoshop (drawing with a Wacom tablet). After enough experience creating these, I like to think I've developed an "eye" for what will work as a pumpkin carving. Then I bring the sketch int...

Most of the lights they sell for pumpkins don't get hot. The ones I have use LED lights (I sell these myself) and some use little bulbs like Christmas lights. None of which get warm enough to burn anything. Have no fear.

Edward Scissorhands and Gargoyle Hellion are two of my oldest designs. Are my design skills getting worse, or have the older patthens just achieved "classic" status?

I've seen those drywall stilts, but I think they might be a little too tall for my uses, even at their lowest setting. But aside from that, I think they're kinda expensive, no? If I were to raise myself up, it would likely be a set homemade type stilts.

Definately gotta go with alien stuff, to keep things creepy. Moons and stars would be appropriate images too. Here's some ideas: Alien creature and egg pods The creature itself is a project too big for most, but I bet you could make some creepy alien egg pods. Try covering balloons with paper mache....

I was at the local Halloween shop yesterday, when I noticed that one of the mannequin props flanking the doorway wasn't a mannequin at all. It was a guy in costume, coming to life and scaring people as they walked by. The costume was all black tattered cloth, with wings and a full skull mask. But wh...

I'd probably be okay with something like that, depending on what the charity is and how you credit Zombie Pumpkins. If you're interested in doing something like this, email me the specifics of your idea and maybe we can work something out.

what is a graphics program Well any software that lets you edit images. I use Adobe Photoshop, but you could use whatever you've got. Paint Shop Pro, Gimp, etc. Or since we're talking about scanning, your scanner probably came with with software that allows for basic image editing. Enough for resiz...

I assumed Dremel's pumpkin tool was somehow specifically designed to work with pumpkin skin. But having not tried it yet, I can't say. It might just be their normal whirring tool, only in a festive orange casing for the holiday. Being a purist is a good thing, FlyTags, but I've seen what you've done...

In the future, I hope to add a feature to the site that will allow you to chose the size at which the stencil prints out. But for now, you'll have to get a little crafty. I'd suggest printing it out at normal size, and then taking it to a copy center (as Niceworkbonedaddy suggested) to have them red...
