Anthems or ambiance, these are the tones that rattle your bones.

Call me crazy, but a Halloween mix isn't complete without "Nights in White Satin" by the Moody Blues. Believe me, for some wierd reason, it works. I never burn a Halloween mix without it! Make sure you use the full version, and put it right in the middle between some real classics!

Jolly, "Nights" is one of my favorite songs ever. I agree, you gotta get the full version with the monologue afterwards. I had never thought of putting it on a Halloween mix, but now that you mention it..it would work nicely.

This year I have done a cd. Track listing as follows

1. Ghost Town - The Specials
2. Invaders Must Die - The Prodigy
3. Loving The Alien - David Bowie
4. Star Trekkin' - The Firm
5. Outkast - Dracula's Wedding
6. Love Song For a Vampire - Annie Lennox
7. Voodoo People - The Prodigy
8. Closer - Kings Of Leon
9. Pretend We're Dead - L7
10. Bark at The Moon - Ozzy Ozbourne
11. Fresh Blood - Eels
12. Scary Monsters & Super Creeps - David Bowie
13. Psycho Killer - Talking Heads
14. Killer On The Loose - Thin Lizzy
15. Skeleton Song - Kate Nash

I have to say it doesn't flow very well and probably the order should have been rearranged to flow better but it's done now and the individual songs are great

When I said all the songs are great, I meant with the obvious exception of Star Trekkin'.

I made my annual mix CD for friends again this year, but realized that I forgot to share the list here. So for historical archiving sake, these are the tracks from my 2009 mix:

01. "Keepin' Halloween Alive" by Alice Cooper
02. "Hit The Town" by Shaboi
03. "Halloween (She Gets So Mean)" by Rob Zombie (featuring The Ghastly Ones)
04. "Gozer's Boombox" by Shaboi
05. "Voodoo Woman" by The Coffinshakers
06. "Jack's Lament" by The All American Rejects
07. "Twilight Zone Theme"
08. "Are You Ready For Freddy" by The Fat Boys
09. "Psychic Voodoo Doll" by Deadbolt
10. "Bad Things" by Jace Everett
11. "People Are Strange" by Johnny Hollow
12. "Cemetery" by Headstones
13. "Double Trouble" by John Williams and London Oratory School Schola
14. "Zombieland" by T-Bone Burnett
15. "Hail to the King" by Holy Light of Demons
16. "Tombstone Twist" by The Rhythm Coffin
17. "If I Was Your Vampire" by Marilyn Manson
18. "Re: Your Brains" by Jonathan Coulton
19. "Halloween Classics Mega Mix" by Steve Heffner

As usual, many of the songs relate to the pumpkin patterns made for this year. There's a matching song for The Ghastly Ghoul, Stay Puft, Doctor Bernardi, Freddy Krueger, Snape and Dumbledore, Tallahassee, and Ash.

Also a lot of songs about vampires (a popular theme this year, I made a couple vamp patterns) and songs about voodoo (to go along with my voodoo priest costume this year).

By the way nosferatu, I like your mix CD list. I hadn't thought of many of those songs, so I'll have to add them to my collection and maybe use them for future mixes and parties.

I've got a playlist of it on my iPod. I've gotten rid of Star Trekkin (far too annoying) Kate Nash and Ozzy though as they don't fit well with the rest of the tracks.

I have been listening to your tracks (where I can find them) as I think I'd only heard of two previously.

Ah, that's good find, Sam. Those visuals work great for Dead Man's Party. Especially since Danny Elfman is the singing voice of Jack Skellington, it's a natural fit to hear ol' Jack singing Oingo Boingo.

"Red Right Hand" by Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds is one of my all time favorites. Everybody who doesn't know it ends up loving it and complimenting the spookiness.

For Halloween parties and carving parties I like to extend the play list and keep things fresh by using ambient music to space out the songs with words or that everybody knows.

Some of my favorite ambient filler:

Anything by Lustmord
Anything from the Biosphere album "Substrata"
Twin Peaks soundtrack
"Meltdown" by Clint Mansell from the Requiem For a Dream soundtrack

Also, "Sin Nanna" by Sunn O))) is probably the scariest song I've ever heard.

Theres also the theme song to the Haunted Mansion from Disneyland. It is very eerie and it's cool to drive to at night! I like everyone's mixes for Halloween this year, never considered to do that but now I should!
